The Mercer County School district is new this year of 2009-2010 and is a consolidation of Aledo and Westmer High Schools in 2009. Mercer County High School competes in the "LTC"-Lincoln Trail Conference and is a member school in the "IHSA"-Illinois High School Association. Its mascot is the Golden Eagles. The school has no state championships on record in team athletics and activities in its first year of operation. Aledo High School won 4 state championships, 3 in Boy's Football (1998, 2001, 2002), and 1 in Boy's Golf, Matt Ewing in (1984). Also they have 3 runner-ups in football in (1988), (2005), & (2006) and 1 runner-up in golf in (1985). Also they have had 2 State Champions in Wrestling being Kevin Clawson in (1995) and Clayton Rush in (2006), & (2007) and "5" State runner-ups, "6" 3rd place finishers, & "3" 4th place finishers.
